Some Practical Ways to Know Your Neighbors
ENGAGE Go for walks around your neighborhood. If you run out of a food ingredient, ask your neighbor and offer lending as well. Work or do projects in your driveway. Sit out on your porch or driveway. Initiate a phone/text and/or email directory and give to each of your neighbors. Organize a neighborhood yard sale. Form a Neighborhood Watch Group. Join the NextDoor.com or start your own neighborhood Facebook page.
FUN Block Party (4th of July, National Night Out, Halloween, etc.). Have your kids play in the front yard (and not just the backyard). Play games like basketball, corn hole, etc. in the front yard. Movie night in your driveway. Firepit and Smores in your driveway. Plan a garden tour party. Plan a progressive dinner with your neighbors going to each home.
SERVE Bake and deliver cookies. Mow a neighbor’s lawn. Help a neighbor with a home project. Offer tools and yard equipment.
MEALS Informal outside BBQ in the front yard. Invite a neighbor family for a meal or drinks ... the best way to connect on a deeper level.
